What happened while we were away
We’ve been in Mississippi since the first of October — taking a break between mountain seasons and spending time with family. When we left Park City, we planned to stay through Thanksgiving and then head back in early December (this was Bernie’s first time to fly with us!).
It’s been good to slow down for a bit. Cass checks the Park City snow reports almost daily, already planning his first runs, while I’ve settled right back into Mississippi life.
Zoe Main, my fave
I’ve been going to Mississippi State soccer games, catching baseball fall scrimmages, and cheering at women’s basketball. The cowbells, the crowd, the band — it’s all comfortingly familiar. I’ve also been visiting with my son and catching up with family, which has been really nice.
Tomorrow, I’m heading to Navarre Beach, Florida, with my sister and brother-in-law for a five-day beach trip. Salt air instead of mountain air — I’ll take it.
One night my sister and I went to Dave’s Dark Horse Tavern on a total whim — and ended up seeing Afroman perform live. Definitely not something I expected to cross off my bucket list, but it was completely worth it. Sometimes small-town nights surprise you.
Cass is ready to get back to Park City as soon as possible to kick off ski season. I’m missing the turn of the aspens, but I’m not exactly sad about swapping snow boots for flip-flops a little longer.
He’s watching snowfall totals in Utah; I’m tracking free throw percentages in Starkville.
We’ll head back to Utah soon, get back into our routines, and pick up where we left off — Cass on the slopes, me at physical therapy. But for now, it’s been good to be home for fall.
