First impressions of PC
Moving somewhere new means everything is a “first.” First grocery run, first doctor visit, first hike, first time realizing you’re not in Austin anymore.
Our first stop in Park City was The Market at Park City, the closest grocery store to our townhouse, for essentials to tide us over until the U-Box arrived. Convenient, yes. Affordable? Not so much, as we quickly learned.
Since then, Walmart has become our go-to. It’s right across from Smith’s (a Kroger-owned chain, sorry sis!), and while we haven’t really shopped at Walmart in years thanks to H-E-B, familiarity won out. Let’s just say the grocery adjustment is ongoing.
I also joined an MD VIP practice — a concierge physician setup where you pay a membership fee for more individualized care. So far, I’ve had an introductory visit and a pre-wellness exam (labs and physical), with my full wellness visit coming up soon. It’s a new model of healthcare for me, but one that feels reassuring in a new town.

I found the Park City Newcomers group and joined. They send out a monthly newsletter with all kinds of events you can sign up for. We haven’t made it to anything yet, but it’s nice to know the option is there. Hopefully, we’ll find our spot soon.
And then there was our first hike: Silver Lake Trail up to the top of Bald Mountain. It was beautiful, steep, and nearly finished me off. Thankfully, there was a lift to take us back down — otherwise I might still be catching my breath up there.
Breaking in my new hiking boots
Turns out my shoe collection does not help much on steep hikes.
These first impressions are just the start. Grocery shopping, hiking, finding new routines — they’re all pieces of settling in. Ask me again after a full winter here.
