We bought a house

After months of living out of a furnished townhome rental, we closed this week on a home in the Deer Mountain neighborhood just outside Park City. It's real, the paperwork is signed, and we are no longer at the mercy of someone else's furniture choices.

The house sits on the edge of the Jordanelle Reservoir — if you've driven US-40 between Heber and Park City, you know the view. We now have a front-row seat to it, which still feels a little absurd in the best way.

The home has the mountain aesthetic you'd expect: cedar-toned wood trim, a deck with a view, vaulted ceilings, and a stacked-stone fireplace that will get a lot of use in the winters. The main living area opens onto the deck through sliding glass doors. Out back there's a concrete patio and a flat lawn, which at this elevation is apparently a feature worth mentioning in the listing. They were right. The patio is a solid future hot tub spot, and the yard is great for Bernie — flat grass being something of a luxury when you live on a hillside.

The new Deer Valley East resort is visible from the property. I'll just leave that there.

The photos are from the listing — that's not our furniture, and frankly we're mostly starting from scratch on that front. We brought some things up from Austin, but we're furnishing most of the upstairs and all of the bedrooms from scratch — so expect future posts about that very unglamorous process.

More updates as things actually happen.
